A Study on the Image of Nurses Perceived by Oriental Medicine Doctors

Abstract

|
By analyzing the images of nurses perceived by Oriental Medicine Doctors(OMD), this study intends to provide basic data for smooth work between OMD and nurse. This study conducted a questionnaire survey of 88 OMD and Oriental Medicine Students(OMS). The collected data were analyzed by each item, factor and characteristic. The mean score of nurse's image perceived by OMD was 3.14, which was lower than the scores from previous studies of other groups; patient, carer, general person, nursing student student. As a result of analysis by factors, the score was higher in the order of traditional image(3.58), professional image(3.30), personal image(3.09), social image(2.60). Among the detailed item scores, item ‘The nurse is clean and tidy’ was the highest(4.01) and item ‘Nurses perform patient care on their own’ the lowest(2.38). The characteristics that have a significant effect on the nurse's image score are marital status, experience with working with nurse, experience with the nurse in the media. Sex, presence of religion, presence of hospitalization, experience of caregivers, presence of nurses' family did not affect the score significantly. licensed OMD showed higher scores of professional image and social image and lower personal image score than students without license. The total number of participants is 88, which is not enough to represent the entire OMD and OMS. There is a limit to direct comparative analysis with previous studies conducted by other questionnaire tools by selecting one of the various questionnaires on the image of nurses. However, this study succeeded in presenting the basic data for the first time since 1993 for the view of the OMD and OMS on the image of nurses.
